Turn Before The End

Fall gives us fantastic erratic weather. One minute it will be raining, then snowing and then sunny. I actually love that the weather is that erratic because it gives us moody scenes like this. Red On White

Even though it started to rain, snow then sleet, I didn't stop looking for the beauty of fall. I have always loved seeing the contrast between white birch trees with fall colors but had never found that ideal shot I had sought after for years. I finally found the scene I had envisioned and the rain/wetness actually aided in its beauty. This beautiful scene was found in Marquette, Michigan

Boat House Haven

One of my favorite places in Copper Harbor, Michigan to visit is a place called Bare Bluff. After hiking straight up you get to the top and get to see a view that seems to goes on forever. Although it is easy to take a shot of the wide expansive view. I choose to zoom in on the interesting bays along the tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula. I called this photograph "Boat House Haven" because in the last bay you can see a boat house that has quite the location and view.

Equal Beauty

In photography there is a term called the rule of thirds. This "rule" says images are best seen when you put your subject in 2/3rds of your image. While this is the case for most photographs, rules are meant to be broken. For example; I couldn't cut off the emerging fall colors in Copper Harbor and I couldn't cut off the view of this unique sunrise. I tested cutting one out for the other and it just wasn't the same. I liked the colliding beauty of the two.

Fall's Atmosphere

Brockway Mountain near Copper Harbor, Michigan is a fantastic place to visit with a 360 degree view that seems to go forever. Being up top gives you an advantage to see all types of weather. After shooting the sun rising above Copper Harbor, I went to the second viewpoint on Brockway Mountain Drive and found this scene. During the autumn season the weather is very temperamental. Which is great for nature lovers and photographers because it creates incredible scenes with great atmosphere. It was almost as if the sun shined a spotlight on those beautiful fall colors.

Captivating Lighthouse

If you ever have a chance to visit Eagle Harbor Lighthouse, please check out the lighthouse museum if it is open. You will learn about the interesting history of this lighthouse, the trickiness of navigating the harbor and heroic stories of the Life Saving Station. The story of a late November storm in 1926 stands out the most to us after visiting the museum. The station got word that the ship Thomas Maytham had gotten stuck on rocks about 40 miles away leaving the ship and its 22 crew members stranded. Luckily the Life Saving crew was able to reach the boat and take those 22 crew members to shore. However, that wasn't the end of the story, on the way back they spotted another ship that had run aground. This ship was identified as the City Of Bangor, which had a crew of 29 men and over 200 brand new 1926 Chryslers aboard. If you visit the museum you can learn the captivating details story of this rescue and much more about the areas history.

Michigan's Happy Little Trees

While driving around on the back roads in the Western Upper Peninsula of Michigan I came upon this view. I immediately thought "Sorry, Rob Ross! Nature has you beat on this one." It was like someone had painted this beautiful scene. I loved the pop of fall colors, mixed with the nice contrast of snow.

Soaking In The Color

Michigan sure does have some beautiful scenic fall roads. This fantastic scene was found in Keweenaw County in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Manabezho Raging

Manabezho Falls is one of the beautiful waterfalls found in the very western part of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. In fact it is so far west that is over 600 miles from Detroit, Michigan. 600 miles will practicality get you to New York City from Detroit, Michigan. Crazy, ah? Although, I love New York City, I prefer to visit the UP in the Fall. The width of the Presque Isle River and the variations in the water levels of the river allow for a different view every time I have visited.

Surrounded By Autumn

When you first hear about Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore you are most likely told about large rock cliffs and cool rock formations located on the shore of Lake Superior; the great lakes largest and deepest lake. The 1st rock formation that you will most likely see is Miners Castle. Miners Castle is the closest rock formation to the closest town; Munising, Michigan. The Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is one of those places that is ever changing and Miners Castle is no exception to that. Miners Castle used to have two turrets but as you can see there is only one now. In 2006 the 2nd turret collapsed into Lake Superior.

Fall Dominating

The easiest way to see Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is via boat and the 1st sight you come to is the Grand Island East Channel Lighthouse. I loved this view because the fall colors were towering over the lighthouse.

Bay View

If you are only passing through Munising, Michigan, one of the quickest ways to see Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is to stop at the scenic overlook on the north west side of Munising. This overlook gives you a view of Munising Bay, Grand Island and Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. After seeing this view I guarantee you will want to come back for more. We stopped here just after the sun popped out and lit up Grand Island. The water seemed to glow a deep blue and the fall colors on Grand Island were perfect peak.

Fall Dwarfing The Light

The easiest way to see Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore is via boat and the 1st sight you come to is the Grand Island East Channel Lighthouse. I loved this view because it allowed the lighthouse to be dwarfed by the fall colors of Grand Island.

Beauty Through The Rain

Point Iroquois Lighthouse near Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan gives light to all freighter's coming through the Soo Locks. Even on a very rainy day this lighthouse showed its beauty as it was surrounded by fall foliage. I would love to go back to this Lighthouse on a warmer, drier day and sit and watch the freighters come through.

Colorfull Hills

Beautiful fall colors along 510 near Big Bay, Michigan. The road is so new it is not on google maps yet. This road leads to the Eagle Mine.

Down On The Farm

This barn has so much character and charm. The Traverse City area has an abundant amount of these lovely farms and if you are like me you can spend hours in the area just driving around looking for scenes like this.

Glimpse Of Beauty

Upper Tahquamenon Falls is always a treat to visit. This waterfall is easily accessible all year round. The waterfall gets its amber color from the cedar, spruce and hemlock swamps up river. It is easy to see why people come from all over the country and world to visit this 48 foot tall and over 200 wide waterfall.

Local Views

I am always looking for local roads and hikes to find great fall color each fall. I was able to find this beautiful road in my local area and couldn't be more happy to find this in my neighborhood.

Dock On The Bay

You don’t have to drive around to find fall colors in Michigan. You can view them while tasting some of the area’s wine. Look at this view at Leelanau Cellars in Omena, Michigan!

Unbelieveable Color

The Leelanau Peninsula area is rich with apple orchards, cherry orchards and vineyards, so naturally I wanted to include at least one of these in my photographs. After hours of driving around I found this beautiful apple orchard with a brilliant display of fall in the background. I love the contrast between the still green apple orchard and the fall foliage.
