Jagged pieces of blue ice fought for space near the Mackinac Bridge last winter during a somewhat rare phenomenon. The ice appears blue because the lack of oxygen in the ice. These blue ice piles were stacked in some places more than 30 feet tall and the ice itself ranged from paper thin to more than 24 inches thick.
The beautiful wet snow stuck to everything it could. I loved the contrast of the snow and the open water. Although, this shot could almost pass as a black and white image it is actually in color.
No matter where you are you can always find beauty around you. This Mid-Michigan park; Eastgate Park is no exception. If you follow those footprints you will reach the start of the trailhead. The trail leads you into the woods where you can follow along the side of the Red Cedar River.
