Since it was snowing in Marquette, Michigan I figured I would take a drive up to Big Bay and check out the view at Thomas Rock. As I got closer the sun came out, which was such a welcomed treat because the sun has been hiding for most of the fall up here. I walked up, well rather ran up to Thomas Rock because I didn't want to miss the beautiful sun. This is the first view I saw and I thought it was perfect; the beautiful sun shinning on the trees perfectly with these awesome clouds. I ran around and took as many shots as I could before the sun disappeared again. It only lasted about 15 minutes and the sun was gone and it started to snow heavily.
I knew the falls would be raging because of the recent rain but I had no idea how much. Well I got my answer when I drove over the bridge above the falls and the river's waves were crashing over the bridge. Once I got to the base of the falls, it wasn't the typical beautiful cascading falls we all know and love. The whole area was flooded and the pool at the base of the falls had 1 foot waves in it. I walked over to the stairs to see if I could go up to see the falls from the side and saw this view.
A lovely drive along a back road in the Hiawatha National Forest south of Munising, Michigan. Fall of 2016.
