I usually leave at the last minute when I know the weather/sunrise/sunset is going to be ideal however I didn't have the luxury of that for my trip to the western lighthouses in the Straits of Mackinac this year. I had to book this trip well in advanced and just had to hope the weather was going to be good. It turned out better than I ever dreamed it would. The water was calm, the evening light was prefect and the sunset turned out to be nothing short of amazing. As I took this shot the tour guide proclaimed "This is a million dollar shot folks." While I surely won't make a million dollars, I'll settle with this million dollar view of the White Shoal Lighthouse.
If you area looking for great hikes to do in Michigan, make sure Sugarloaf Mountain in Marquette is on your list. This beautiful trail takes you to the top of the "Mountain," where you get a 360 degree view of Lake Superior, Downtown Marquette, and the Huron Mountains.
While doing some local hiking on a wintery day, I found this view. I loved that the river was flowing because it provided it nice contrast with the white snow. As an added bonus I was able to capture this leaning tree reflecting over the river, almost completing a perfect circle.
