One of my favorite places to photograph in Michigan is Silver Lake Sand Dunes in Mears. I love that the dunes are always changing and you can always find so much character there. The sun was getting lower and it was starting to get into what photographers call the golden hour. This is where the sun is diffused by the atmosphere and the light softens. I couldn’t help but be drawn to this lone tree....
Since 1935 this unique lighthouse; Grays Reef, has protected ships from a shallow reef. This lighthouse stands 65 feet tall in the northern part of Lake Michigan. I loved that the golden sunset lit up the side of the lighthouse with its beautiful rays.
If you are looking for an easy (non-paved) hike while visiting Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, Miners Falls is a great option. I visited the falls on a rainy/misty day and it was wonderful. The trail was lined with hundreds of wild flowers making for an added bonus on an already great trail.
