Northern Lights at Lake Michigamme, Upper Peninsula, Michigan on June 23rd 2016
Mosquito Falls in Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, near Munising, Michigan
Whenever I go to shoot a sunset, I always try to head there a few hours before and sometimes I'll spend the whole day checking the area out. The day I took this photo, I couldn’t decide on which side I wanted to be on (lighthouse side or the north pier). So I did both. I am glad I did because while I was on the north pier a darker high level cloud muted the sun so much so that it glowed a yellow. It also made the water look hypnotic. I jumped in my car and headed over to the lighthouse side for another shot and by the time the sun actually set, the sky lit up in pinks and purples.
