Welcoming boaters into the harbor of the Grand River, the outer Lighthouse in Grand Haven, Michigan stands 42 feet tall and was first lit in 1905. This unique view is possible because the catwalk has been removed to do repairs to pier. I loved the reflection of the lighthouse in the wave puddles.
What a #puremichigan view?!?! Even on a cloudy day it was a wonderful view of the fall colors over a beautiful winery with Lake Michigan in the distance. While shooting this photograph they were actually harvesting the grapes. If you haven't seen the process, you should check it out, it is really quite cool.
What can I say about the blue ice in Mackinaw City? For one, it was awesome. I snagged a close up shot of the ice as I wanted to capture the character of the ice. It was very interesting because the ice was really soft on top with a little layer of snow, then below the snow it had really brittle ice crystals, that when you tapped it, it acted and sounded like shattered glass but was still very brittle. Also most of the blue color of the ice was on the very bottom. I took a lot of close up shots of the ice and this one is one of my favorite because the sun came out from under the clouds and lit up the ice and showed the awesome details of the brittle ice crystals.
