I am like a moth to a light whenever I hear there are Gale Warnings on the Great Lakes. I love seeing the power of what wind can do to these massive bodies of water. It is hard to show the scale of the waves without a measured object it its path. Lucky for us we have many awesome lighthouses along the shores. So to give you perspective, the Frankfort Lighthouse is 67 feet tall; another words almost 5 stories tall.
I arrived at this location in the pitch dark to ensure I wouldn’t miss the first light of the day. The darkness and rather rocky/rooty trail made for a tricky blind hike. However, it is all worth it because you are treated this lovely view of Porter's Island. This landscape reminds me more of Canada, than that of Michigan.
