I can see why the ice climbers gravitated to this section of Grand Island in Munising, Michigan. The massive ice cliffs held this amazing blue colored ice. This cliff is easily 100 feet tall and I loved the contrasting colors of blue and white.
I couldn't get enough of the blue ice in Mackinaw City. It was very interesting because the ice was really soft on top with a little layer of snow, then below the snow it had really brittle ice crystals, that when you tapped it, it acted and sounded like shattered glass but was still very brittle. Also most of the blue color of the ice was on the very bottom.
