I have said it before and I will say it again, I love moody skies!!! I love them so much I actually purposely drove to the Traverse City area to photograph in the moody skies. Sometimes the weather gets a little too rough but when it pulls out of it you get some fantastic scenes. The amazing aqua waters near the base of the Charlevoix Lighthouse were awesome when they were paired with those moody skies.
I knew Michigan had Tamarack trees but I had no idea how many of them we really had until I saw so many of them turn peak this fall. Tamarack trees are really interesting because they are both a coniferous and a deciduous tree. Meaning they are a needle like evergreen tree that changes color in the fall and drops its needles.
I knew the falls would be raging because of the recent rain but I had no idea how much. Well I got my answer when I drove over the bridge above the falls and the river's waves were crashing over the bridge. Once I got to the base of the falls, it wasn't the typical beautiful cascading falls we all know and love. The whole area was flooded and the pool at the base of the falls had 1 foot waves in it. I walked over to the stairs to see if I could go up to see the falls from the side and saw this view.
