Mackinac Island has been named TripAdvisor's #1 Summer travel destination in 2018 and Conde Nast's #6 Best Island in America (beating some Hawaiian Islands) in 2018. With many beautiful views and unique experiences I can see why. Arriving via ferry boat, this "motor-less" island is a throwback to the olden days with horse drawn carriages and bicycles as its only mode of transportation. This island forces you to slow down and enjoy your surroundings.
Manabezho Falls is one of the beautiful waterfalls found in the very western part of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. In fact it is so far west that is over 600 miles from Detroit, Michigan. 600 miles will practicality get you to New York City from Detroit, Michigan. Crazy, ah? Although, I love New York City, I prefer to visit the UP in the Fall. The width of the Presque Isle River and the variations in the water levels of the river allow for a different view every time I have visited.
Massive waves made the south pier unusable in Frankfort, Michigan during a recent gale warning. It was mesmerizing to stand on the shore and watch the power of these waves. These waves slammed so hard you had to look up to see the top of them. If I were to estimate, based on the size of the nearby lighthouse at 67 feet, it was easily taller than that.
