It’s always a photographers dream to get a phenomenal sunset or sunrise in that perfect iconic place. It is a dream because incredible sunrises and sunrise are rather rare and the chances of all the ideal factors lining up are even more rare. I knew the fall colors were peak but heavy rain (inches) and strong winds swept through the area and I had concerns that all the leaves would drop because of the bad weather. As I was driving to the sunrise that morning a hard freeze happened and I could see piles of leaves laying on the ground. Really making me question if driving the 8 1/2 hours was worth it. The clouds started to build and the sun started to rise. It was only a matter of time before the sun exploded with color and lit up the incredible fall colors. As a photographer mornings like that is why I do what I do.
Jagged pieces of blue ice fought for space near the Mackinac Bridge last winter during a somewhat rare phenomenon. The ice appears blue because the lack of oxygen in the ice. These blue ice piles were stacked in some places more than 30 feet tall and the ice itself ranged from paper thin to more than 24 inches thick.
