If you have been to the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore you might think this colorful sandstone cliff is found there. However, the island just outside of Munising, Michigan is surrounded by cliffs with similar mineral deposits. This was actually shot at Grand Island which is part of the Hiawatha National Forest. I found myself wandering the ice caves along those cliffs and happened to come along the wonderful mineral deposits. After studying the scene it almost appears as if the weight of the ice pulls off sheets of sandstone to expose the colorful mineral deposits below.
If you have seen the "Pot Holes" in the Porcupine Mountain State Park from above it looks as if the rivers elevation does not change very much. However, when viewed from a different vantage point you can see that the water beautifully cascades, in an almost waterfall way, down the river.
If you haven’t been to the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, you would think this photograph was taken from a drone but this is one of the many amazing views you can see. I liked that you could see the topography of the area and the rain showers in the distance.
