October in Northern Michigan has many faces. It can be sunny one minute, the next the wind picks up and the next it is snowing. Whatever it does, it always keeps you on your toes and keeps things interesting.
On average, each year 250 million pounds of cherries are harvested and 966 million pounds of apples are harvested. Michigan is the nation's top tart cherry producer and is 3rd in the nation for apple production. Most cherry orchards can be found on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan from Benton Harbor to the Traverse City area. Michigan's lower peninsula houses most of Michigan's apple orchards.
On my second visit of the day to Sugarloaf Mountain I was photographing the contrasting fall colors to the west and a collage age person walked up and found a spot to sit on a rocky escarpment. I couldn't help but stop and snap a shot of her. I thought to myself what a wonderful place to escape to and to take a break.
